In Omaha (Douglas County), vehicle titles and registrations are handled at the Douglas County Treasurer’s Office, not the DMV driver licensing locations. In‑person branches include:

Registering or Renewing a Vehicle

New to Nebraska?

Welcome aboard! You’ve got 30 days from the day you arrive to get your vehicle titled and registered in Nebraska.

Steps for first-time registration include:

  1. Gather your current title (if out-of-state; may need to request it from your lien holder)
  2. Complete an Application for Certificate of Title
  3. Bring the most recent registration certificate
  4. Bring original proof of valid insurance (copies won’t work)
  5. Pay required fees and taxes – use the Motor Vehicle Tax Estimator online to estimate costs.
  6. Get a sheriff’s inspection done at the Midtown Branch (411 N 84th St). Fee is $10.00. You’ll receive an inspection certificate, needed for titling.

Renewing Your Registration

You can renew online, by mail, or in person. For mail or in‑person renewal, you’ll need:

  • Your expiring registration or renewal notice
  • Original proof of insurance
    After payment and verification, you’ll receive your new registration, plates, and validation tabs via mail.

Fees Breakdown

  • $15.00 – registration fee for passenger and leased vehicles
    Additional fees include:
    • $0.50 for the Emergency Medical System Operation Fund
    • $2.00 to the DMV Cash Fund
    • $1.50 to the State Recreation Road Fund

Driver’s Licenses & Permits

Where to Go

Driver’s licenses, learner permits, ID cards, and CDL services are handled at DMV driver‑licensing offices, separate from registration offices.

In Omaha, there are two:

  • 4606 N 56th St Ste 100 (no drive tests or CDL skills at this location)
  • 17007 Burt St (drive tests stop after 3:20 PM)
    Appointments are recommended, especially for testing.
