UPDATE: Unfortunately, Benjamin’s has closed.
My wife and I have a simple rule when we’re out running errands: if we’re already on the move, we might as well turn it into a mini date and try somewhere new. On Monday, February 2, 2026, we did exactly that and ended up at Benjamin’s Neighborhood Kitchen in Omaha.
Quick spoiler: we’re already planning a return trip.
The quick scoop
- Overall vibe: Modern, clean, and upbeat
- Best bite: The BENJIS BURGER (my wife is still talking about it).
- Most memorable detail: Diego, our server.
- Would we go back: Yes, absolutely!
First impressions: modern, bold, and surprisingly cozy
From the moment we walked in, the space felt fresh and intentional. The look is modern with lots of black and white throughout, and the bar area immediately catches your eye. It’s lit in a way that highlights the liquor bottles, which gives the whole room a polished, “let’s stay for one more drink” kind of energy.
There are several TVs on the wall, so it has a casual, neighborhood feel too, but it didn’t come across like a loud sports bar. It felt more like a comfortable spot where you can enjoy a great meal and still catch whatever game is on.
Personally and only my opinion, the decor could use some help. It’s a bit scattered and unfocused. There are hanging stars from the ceiling and a floor to ceiling tree with pink flowers in the center of the room. I didn’t get the vibe.
What we ordered (and what we thought)
Caesar salad: fresh, mild, and quietly excellent
We started with the Caesar salad, and I’m glad we did. It was very fresh and mild, but still flavorful. Not heavy. Not overly garlicky. Just balanced and easy to enjoy. Also, big enough for two people. It’s the kind of starter that sets a good tone for the rest of the meal.

A crisp and fruity Riesling to share
We also ordered a glass of wine to share, a crisp and fruity Riesling (our favorite style). It paired perfectly with the salad and kept everything feeling light even as we moved into richer entrees.
The BENJIS BURGER: “one of the best burgers I’ve had”
My wife ordered the BENJIS BURGER and asked for the fries without truffle. Her review was immediate and strong: she said it was one of the best burgers she’s had.
She rated her meal a 4.5/5, which is a big deal in our household because we don’t hand out high burger scores lightly. (Picture taken after she’d cut it in half.)

Short rib lasagne: big comfort, slightly heavy on top cheese
I went with the short rib lasagne, and overall it was really good. The biggest win for me was the flavor in the sauce. The San Marzano tomatoes made a noticeable difference and gave it that deeper, richer taste you don’t always get in a typical red sauce.
My one complaint: it had a lot of mozzarella on top, and that made it harder to get those perfect balanced bites of meat, pasta, and cheese together. Some people will love that extra cheese layer. I just prefer a little more balance so the short rib shows up more evenly in every forkful.
Still, it earned a solid 4/5 from me.

Dessert to-go that turned into a happy surprise
We ordered the CORNCAKE AND ROASTED PEACH & LEMON GLAZE to go. When we got home and opened it, we were honestly surprised by the size. It was huge, almost like a mini cake meant to be shared.
Even better, it came with a cup of vanilla ice cream. That simple add-on turned it into the perfect “end the night on the couch” dessert, and it felt like a great value.
Service highlight: Diego was fantastic
Our server, Diego, deserves a shout-out. He was attentive without hovering, friendly without feeling scripted, and his recommendations were genuinely helpful. You can tell when someone cares about the experience and not just the table turn, and Diego absolutely brought that energy.
A big thank you to the kitchen
Also, compliments to the chef and cooks: our meal was excellent from start to finish. Everything came out hot, well-timed, and thoughtfully put together. The flavors were dialed in, the ingredients tasted fresh, and you could tell real care went into each dish. That kind of consistency is what makes a first visit feel like the beginning of a new go-to spot.
A small detail we loved: the service cart
One of the coolest little touches was how orders were delivered on a cart. It might sound simple, but it felt really smart. It keeps plates steady, helps avoid spills and accidents, and it seemed like it would reduce stress for the servers, especially when the dining room is busy. It also added a fun, old-school “dining room service” feel that made the experience stand out.
A new restaurant feel (in a good way)
Benjamin’s is still new, and it shows in the best way. The space feels fresh, the staff seems energized, and the menu gave us multiple “we have to try that next time” moments.
We left already talking about what we want to order on visit number two, which is always the sign we found a keeper.
Final verdict
If you’re looking for a new spot in Omaha that feels modern, serves flavorful food, and delivers great service, Benjamin’s Neighborhood Kitchen is worth a visit. Between the Caesar salad, the standout burger, the flavorful lasagne, and that unexpectedly massive dessert, this place officially made our “go back soon” list.
We’ll be returning, and next time we’re going with the mindset of trying something entirely different, because the menu feels like it has a lot more to offer.
